4 Week Wine Course: Spotlight on Spain and Portugal
Join us as we taste our way around the amazing wines of the Iberian Peninsular with the fanstastic 4 week course.
Both countries are fortunate enough to contain a number of wine producing regions, often using their own indigenous varieties. These are wines that you simply can't find anywhere else! And the range of style produced is diverse, including refreshing sparkling wines, aromatic wines, full bodied red wines and complex fortified wines, there is something for everyone here!
Over the 4 weeks we will taste wines from the more famous regions such as Cava and Rioja, but also look at some of the less well known areas such as Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas, Priorat and Douro wines.
Course programme (all Fridays):
Week 1 - Eastern and Southern Spain - Friday 1st Feb
We'll start off with some lovely Cava and then take a look at some white and red wines from the smaller regions along the mediterranean coast. We'll finish off with a red wine from Priorat, one of the most intensely flavoured and rich reds you can get!
Week 2 - Northern Spain - Friday 8th Feb
On this evening we'll try some wines from the famous Rioja region, as well as other less famous whites and reds from nearby. Tempranillo is the important grape variety here but you will be amazed at the range of styles it can achieve!
Week 3 - Portugal - Friday 15th Feb
Portugal has long been famous for its sweet fortified wines, but now the still wines are really starting to make an impression too. We well try a selection of both and give you an overview of all that's happening in Portugal at the moment.
Week 4 - Sherry and Tapas - Friday 2nd Feb
To finish off the course a special evening of Sherry and Tapas! We'll pick out a selection of different sherry styles for dry to sweet and match them with tasty tapas dishes.
Comprehensive tasting sheets and use of professional ISO wine tasting glasses are included.
